Rest assured that we evaluate between 2-4k new seedlings, 60-90 advanced lines, and 3-5 pre-elite lines on an annual basis.
W1108-333-333, also known as HRC-3, was developed in 2011 by Washington State University from a cross between Brewer's Gold and 64103M. It gained traction among brewers from the Brewer's Association HopSource program and was recently graduated to the Elite On-Farm stage and is available for off-station trials from the Clean Plant Center Northwest via Material Transfer Agreement. It is currently being evaluated in 2-acre plots in Washington and Idaho. W1108-333 earned first place in HopSource in 2022 and 2023. This line has a mid-to-late (9/17-9/20) picking window, low first year yields, and mature yields reported to range from 1,875 - 2,720 lbs /acre. This line is moderately susceptible to downy mildew, and resistant to known races the pathogen that causes powdery mildew in the PNW.
Small volumes are available for brewing trials via the Hop Research Council. Alpha: 6.7%; Oil: 1.5; Aroma: tropical, stone fruit, melon, citrus |
2001006-084A-084A was developed from a cross made by Dr. John Henning (USDA-ARS) in 2001 using Hersbrucker Pure and 21360M. This line was being grown in Prosser, WA in 2020 when the new USDA program was established there and has consistently stood out since then for its high yields and unique aroma due to its high geraniol content (7-10%). It is typically harvested in late September or early October in WA. It is generally a very vigorous plant with large trichomes and burrs, and was recently confirmed to be a triploid. It is a high yielding line, reporting upwards of 12 bales per acre in the first year, and yielding similarly to the variety Zeus in our breeding program trials. It is moderately susceptible to powdery mildew in the greenhouse and screening is underway for downy mildew. It was submitted for virus and viroid removal in 2022 (currently positive for HLV and HMV) and is being grown in 50-hill test plots in Prosser, WA and Toppenish, WA and will be scaled up to 1-acre in 2024. It is available for distribution for brewing trials on a small scale.
